Below are links to websites I’ve found very helpful in the book publishing industry. Not only do these websites describe services provided, but they also share tips, articles, newsletters and other relevant information. This list is a work in progress, and new links are always being added as I discover them.

The Book Designer Joel Friedlander’s blog contains hundreds of posts about every aspect of writing and publishing books. An excellent resource!
Book Design Made Simple Fiona Raven and Glenna Collett share their book design and self-publishing expertise in their blog posts and videos about book design, InDesign, and publishing.
The Creative Penn Joanna Penn shares her self-publishing journey with articles, videos, and audio about writing and creativity, publishing options, book marketing, and being a creative entrepreneur.
1106 Design Michele DeFilippo is a book designer, but her blog is about so much more, including self-publishing, book marketing, and printing.
Jane Friedman blogs about writing and publishing in the digital age, and keeps up with the rapid transformation in the publishing industry.
Adibooks Offers one stop book printing along with resources and guidance for first time authors, seasoned pro’s as well as book publishers, including Online Instant Quotes. Affiliated with King Printing.
Blitzprint Blitzprint is based in Alberta, Canada and specializes in short-run printing. They also offer add-on services to authors, such as distribution, fulfillment, and marketing.
Bookmasters Bookmasters offers short run printing (minimum 100 copies) plus a variety of services including storage and fulfillment, marketing and an online bookstore.
BookMobile Bookmobile offers digital printing for trade paperbacks, hardcover books and full-color illustrated books.
Edition One Books They offer printing and binding for art and photography books, color coffee table books, and hardcovers with special treatments such as inset images and foil stamping.
Printorium Bookworks / Island Blue They offer short-run digital printing for books, including color pages and softcovers with flaps.
Friesens manufactures books for publishers all across North America specializing in full colour hardcover and softcover books. Located in Manitoba, Canada, they give very competitive quotes for printing and shipping books to the US.
Hemlock Printers continues to be recognized for excellence in book printing at the various international printing industry award competitions. They have the latest technology available to make your book a success.
Lammar Printing (Hong Kong) offers very competitive prices, particularly for color printing and any kind of hand work such as pop-ups, flaps, glued images, or hand insertions.
Replika Press Based in India, Replika Press has excellent prices for color printing. They manufacture soft-cover and hard-cover books for publishers worldwide.
Sentinel Printing is a nationally recognized printer of softcover books, catalogs, manuals, and directories. Located in St. Cloud, Minnisota.
Transcontinental Printing Transcontinental Metrolitho is one of four Transcontinental plants dedicated to high quality book production. From their plant in Quebec, Canada, they serve a growing number of authors across North America.
Createspace is an Amazon company, offering full services including printing, distribution, and marketing.
IngramSpark is affiliated with Ingrams and offers a simple publishing solution for self-publishers with one book (for both print and ebooks).
Lightning Source is affiliated with Ingrams and offers color POD as well as reasonable prices for offset printing.
US Copyright Office Information on copyright laws and policy, how to register your work, and search for specific copyrights.
Chicago Manual of Style This site offers some information from the CMOS, but you do have to be a member to search it. Includes information on submitting work to University of Chicago Press.
Editorial Freelancers Association The online directory provides access to the diverse assortment of highly skilled professionals who make up the EFA membership.
Editors Canada A professional association with 1,600+ members. Offers information and membership for editors, plus you can search the Online Directory of Editors to find an editor for your book.
Indexing and Abstracting Society of Canada Search for indexers specializing in your book’s topic, or search for an indexer in your region.
ISBN number (Canada) Library and Archives Canada: information includes FAQs, a User’s Guide and online Application Forms for ISBN numbers. Must be Canadian to get an ISBN in Canada, and ISBNs are free.
CIP Data (Canada) Library and Archives Canada: information includes FAQs, a User’s Guide and online Application Forms for CIP data. CIP data is free in Canada, but no longer available to self publishers.
Legal Deposit (Canada) Canadian publishers are required to send two copies of all books to Library and Archives Canada. This site provides the Legal Deposit forms, address and instructions.
ISBN number (United States) Purchase ISBNs from Bowker Identifier Services. Must be a US publisher to purchase an ISBN in the US.
LOC Data (United States) Library of Congress services for publishers includes information about CIP data, ISSN numbers and PCN numbers. American self-publishers can obtain an LCCN (Library of Congress Control Number) for free.

Convert your 10-digit ISBN to a 13-digit ISBN An overview of the transition, timing of the transition (January 2007), and a converter that will convert your ISBN number while you wait.
Bookmarket.com Marketing tips for authors, including updates, tips and 1001 Ways to Market Your Books. John Kremer’s site includes lists of book publishers and independent bookstores, as well as seminars and news reports.
The Book Shepherd Writing and book publishing coach, Judith Briles, offers help with marketing and building your author platform.
Build Book Buzz Sandra Beckwith’s site is full of do-it-yourself book marketing tips, tools, and tactics. She specializes in helping self-publishers sell more books.
Cascadia Publicity David J. Litvak, a publicist, writer and broadcaster, established Cascadia Publicity to provide exposure and generate publicity for creative endeavours of all kinds. Giving his clients wider visibility and a higher profile in the marketplace for their projects is his main objective.
Laren Bright Laren helps authors create book titles and subtitles, back cover and flap text, author bios, and other promotional materials.

Independent Book Publishers Association is the largest not-for-profit trade association representing independent publishers in the book publishing industry, offering benefits from resources and discounts to education and marketing.
Small Publishers, Artists, and Writers Network (SPAWN) provides information, resources and opportunities for everyone involved in or interested in publishing, whether you are an author, freelance writer, artist or you own a publishing company.
The Authors Guild is the US’s oldest and largest professional organization for writers. Since its beginnings over a century ago, we have served as the collective voice of American authors. Our members include novelists, historians, journalists, and poets—traditionally and independently published—as well as literary agents and representatives of writers’ estates.

Midwest Book Review is an organization of volunteers committed to promoting literacy, library usage, and small press publishing. Our reviews (with the sole exception of reading fees for ebooks) are free of charge.
Preditors and Editors provides links to publishers and publishing services for serious writers.
Writer’s Digest is the one-stop shop for information, resources and writing community. Writers can connect with other writers on our forum, visit our blogs and sign up for our free weekly e-newsletter. They’ll will also find weekly writing prompts, contests and competitions, conference listings, and online exclusive articles.
Writing-World provides a world of writing tips for writers around the world. This site provides a multitude of articles on topics ranging from writer’s block to copyrights to self-publishing, as well as information on upcoming classes for writers.
The Society of Translators and Interpreters of British Columbia provides a list of members available to translate or interpret over 25 languages.
